As many of you know I am a massive 'Batman' fan, and a huge fan of the Christopher Nolan
'Batman Trilogy' films, after seeing all three films I knew that I would have to do a painting
of some sort!! Well here it is. I decided to incorporate as many parts of the story as I could
that all led, (in many different ways,) to his mental and physical breakdown, before his 'Rise'
again as the saviour of 'Gotham City'. It has taken a long time to finish this painting, partly
because of tiredness from work, partly because of horrendous neck and back pain, and
partly because I nearly binned it two or three times!! I thought I had taken on too much but
I persevered, (after spending ages looking at it, thinking what I could do to make it better.)
I think it is ok, and I hope people like it.
I recently finished this (acrylic on canvas,) painting in which I wanted to show Batman in the old blue and grey outfit of the comics I grew up with. This suit was used right up until just a few years ago when the new black and white one was introduced. I wanted to do a picture as if the viewer was a 'criminal' up to no good who had just turned around and came face to face with you know who! I think I got it right!
Batman - Black & White.
The character of Batman is so very well suited to all things black and white.
There are a series of 'Black and White' statues based on the artwork of many
legendary comic book artists, (yes, I do have a collection of quite a few of them!)
Also there are a series of comics themselves that showcase how well his stories
don't always need colour to showcase the artwork, many of these have tales
of more darker villains and deeds than are usually shown, and they all detail
more dramatic 'lighting' to enhance the mood.
Christian Bale as Batman - The Dark Knight.
Quite simply one of the greatest movies of all time, and my personal favourite of all time.
The character of Batman has always been my number one hero, ever since I was a child
when I first started reading the comics. There have been many interpretations of the
character but when I first saw 'Batman Begins' the first part of a trilogy by director
Christopher Nolan I had high hopes we would see the definitive 'Batman' movie.
The first one was very close, but 'The Dark Knight' was right on the money! Finally a
director had caught the essence of the character, and with a mesmerising performance
from the late Heath Ledger as the 'Joker' it all came together and the rest is history!
